About Our Church
UBC was founded in 1917 by a
group of prominent Baltimore businessmen who wanted to establish
a Baptist witness to Johns Hopkins University and the Northern
Baltimore community. Johns Hopkins University and UBC have
"grown up" facing one another on Charles Street - our history
and future are closely intertwined. At UBC, we value historic
Baptist principles, yet many in our church family come from
various faith traditions. Our Sunday morning worship service is
ordered in contrast to many of our fellow Baptist churches where
the tradition is less formal and more spontaneous. In contrast,
our Sunday evening service is contemporary and lively. So, at
UBC, we enjoy a variety of worship styles. We have discovered
that what unites us is much stronger than any differences we may
have. Our church vision is to know Christ and to make Him
known. For that reason, we have made the following commitments:
To provide meaningful worship
and fellowship opportunities
To invest in and minister to
college students
To cultivate participation in
missions
To nurture spiritual growth in
people of all ages, including youth and children
At UBC, you will find that you
are embraced for who you are and yet challenged to grow and
mature in your Christian faith. We believe that a faith without
questions is a shallow faith indeed. At UBC, we encourage "hard
questions" and we encourage critical thinking as well as
respect for divergent viewpoints – we unite under the leadership
and authority of Jesus Christ. |
