Music Ministry
Music has always been an important part of
the worship experience at UBC. The choir consists of professional
soloists and volunteers. New singers are always welcome. Weekly
anthems consist of a wide variety of repertoire including
Renaissance a cappella motets, spirituals, choruses from
oratorios, and popular contemporary pieces. Professional soloists
perform solos, duets, trios and quartets throughout the year
both individually and in anthems with the choir.
In addition to singing two anthems a week
the choir also performs special concerts during the year. The
UBC choir has combined with other local choirs to perform the
following works accompanied by full orchestra:
- Mozart Requiem
- Faure Requiem
- Brahms Requiem
- Rutter Requiem
- Great Oratorio Choruses
We have also performed the following major
works with organ accompaniment:
- Handel Messiah
- Bach Christmas Oratorio
- Britten Ceremony of Carols [with harp]
- Rutter Magnificat [with chamber
orchestra]
- Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio
- Vivaldi Gloria.
- Verdi Requiem
- Kodaly Missa Brevis
- Verdi Quatro Pezzi Sacri
During special seasons of the year solo
instrumentalists and smaller ensembles perform with the choir on
Sunday mornings.
In addition to the vocal choir UBC also has
a handbell choir which performs about seven times a year.
The organist and choir director, Ronald J.
Gretz, has been at UBC since 1989.
